Daughter of the Nile (NI LUO HE NU ER)

dir: Hou Hsiao Hsien   Taiwan 1988  91 mins  subtitled

Doors at 6:30pm, screening from 7:30pm

A schoolgirl escapes from the many responsibilities thrust upon her by her demanding and tempestuous family life by immersing herself in a comic strip set in ancient Egypt. The film presents a sharply-focussed portrait of neon-lit Taipei, seen very much from ground level, and looks for connections between the girl's two worlds.

Admission: £6.50 Tickets are available from Alastair on 01373 464262

Sunday 2nd December

What price Hollywood?

dir. George Cukor USA 1932 88 mins.

Doors at 6:30pm, film from 7:30pm

One of the best behind-the-scenes looks at the old Hollywood studio system that was ever made, this affectionate but spikily satirical study of the glamorous world of movie-making takes us a few years down the road travelled so appealingly by THE ARTIST - and it even has dialogue too!

Come along from 6:30pm for refreshments – please bring something to contribute!

Admission: £6.50 from Alastair 01373 464262
