Through the Woods, Darkly
Public Launch with Special Events

Saturday 3 July 2010

6.00 – 8.00pm

Twenty years ago Corinna Sargood was commissioned by Virago to illustrate Angela Carter’s wonderfully pithy collection of fairytales. For Frome Festival 2010 Rook Lane Chapel hosts an exhibition of these images as a backdrop to a whole range of events celebrating the continuing importance of fairytales as a way of exploring and interpreting our lives.

Highlights include Marina Warner on Angela Carter and her female protagonists, Jo Ann Kaplan from the National Film and Television School on the making of “The Holy Family Album”, a special screening of Neil Jordan’s The Company of Wolves, co-written with Carter, a schools exhibition of fairytale-inspired creative work, and weekend story-telling events with Frome Story Circle and Open Story Tellers alongside magical afternoon teas from the Food Frome cafe.

We launch the season with a special viewing of the exhibitions alongside the following events:

7.00 – 8.00pm
Sweetbriar present The Wonderful Birch; story-telling and music.
