Mor Karbasi

12th April 2008

Doors open 7.30pm

Celebrating the launch of her first album, a welcome return for this unique “spine tingling” Ladino singer, accompanied by percussion and Spanish guitar.

“Spine tingling songs and a rich new voice from the Jewish diaspora” (WOMAD)

The descendant of both Moroccan and Persian Jews, this London based Israeli singer weaves together ancient and modern influences. 500 year old Ladino songs are gently arranged with a touch of lyrical rock courtesy of Joe Taylor, described as “stunningly inventive” by The Times. Newly composed songs fit easily alongside, attracting the likes of Trilok Gurtu and Ronu Majumdar to play on her debut album due early April 2008. She sings in Hebrew, Ladino and English. Already a buzz has begun, that saw her play two WOMADs in 2007 where Lucy Duran of BBC Radio 3 greeted her first live Radio broadcast with - “Brilliant”

Don’t miss!
