London Harpsichord Ensemble 2008

Sunday 6th April

Doors open 2.30pm

Five players form the London Harpsichord Ensemble: flute, oboe, violin, cello and harpsichord. They have a varied repertoire including pieces that were composed for them.

"lively, intelligent and refreshingly unbuttoned performances"
The Gramophone

Jackdaws is extremely fortunate to be able to present this world class group, whose teachers include such names as Albert Sammons, Jacqueline du Pre and William Pleeth.

Praise showers upon them from all quarters:

"I find it nearly impossible to believe that these concertos could be given more musical readings than these."
American Record Guide (Albinoni Oboe Concertos)

"Uninterrupted pleasure from start to finish"
The Gramophone

The programme on April 6th is mouth-watering enough: Vivaldi, Handel, Telemann, Bach. Added to all this, the Ensemble is giving this concert in aid of Jackdaws. The players understand what Jackdaws is trying to do, and they want to help.

What is Jackdaws trying to do?

Among other things it is trying to inspire youngsters with the quality of classical music and in this it has a remarkable track record extending back over ten years; of last year's (2007) project the Head of Music at Frome Colleges said--

"Once again, many thanks for all that Jackdaws has given, and continues to give, to our students; it adds immeasurable richness to their lives"

It is one of the few organisations that offers classical music and training exclusively; and in an informal, intimate and rural setting; the charity is based in the beautiful Vallis Vale in Great Elm, Somerset.

Admission
