Bath Camerata: Choir Straits

Sunday 14 February 2010

Performance 7.00pm (doors open 6.30pm)

A light-hearted evening for Valentine’s Day featuring Bath Camerata, THE foremost chamber choir in the South West of England, returning to Rook Lane Chapel for a light-hearted Valentine’s Day special. Including music by Henry VIII, Gabrielli, Mozart and Whiteacre, and Queen (yes really), the concert features a new piece of hysterical musical theatre written specially for the choir by Kit Hesketh Harvey and Stuart Hancock (Kit and the Widow).

First performed at the Wigmore Hall just before Christmas, Kit Hesketh Harvey describes ‘Choir Straits’ as an oratorio featuring God, St Peter, and Bath Camerata as a celestial host bickering over what to perform. “Haydn’s Creation? Damn fine sing! Lasts much longer than the real thing...”, “John or Matthew Passion? Stuffy. Plus which, Luke and Mark get huffy.” “Taverner’s got so odd. The way he tries to look like God.”

To hear the piece in its entirety, with an accompanying glass of champagne and canapés, book your tickets now with Rook Lane Arts on 01373 468040. Despite the Valentine’s Theme, singles welcome...
