Coffee Concert Series

During Jan/Feb 2012 - Fortnightly sunday mornings

From 10.30am Sunday newspapers and fair trade coffee are available. Performances begin at 11.30am.

Classical music in a friendly, warm and welcoming setting.

If you are discovering Rook Lane Chapel Coffee Concerts for the first time, please do consider subscribing. 2012 features favourite performers from previous years. You will find a distinctive musical experience - informal, friendly and featuring spoken introductions rather than programme notes.

PASSACAGLIA

Programme to include works by Abel, Handel and Telemann. Annabel Knight (flute/recorder) leads one of Britain’s best loved and most innovative early music ensembles with Robin Bigwood (harpsichord), Louise Bradbury (recorder) and Reiko Ichise (viola da gamba). Passacaglia have performed to great acclaim at venues such as Wigmore Hall, have made many BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, and issued CDs on the Linn label to consistently enthusiastic reviews. Their most recent recording showcases music by Thomas Arne and his contemporaries.

ALEXANDRA DARIESCU, piano

Programme to include JS Bach Partita No. 3 in A Minor, Schumann Abegg Variations and Debussy Estampes. Featured as BBC Music Magazine’s ‘rising star’ in June 2011, Alexandra is an outstanding communicator, hugely popular with audiences. Forthcoming engagements include Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the RPO at the Barbican and her Carnegie Hall debut.

ACCENTI BRASS QUINTET

Programme to include Byrd’s Earle Of Oxford’s March, arr. Howarth, Michael Kamen Quintet for Brass, and a Suite from Bernstein’s West Side Story. Formed when students at the Royal Academy of Music in 2007, Accenti Brass is Nathan Richards and Hannah Bishop (trumpets), Michael Kidd (French horn), Matthew Lewis (trombone) and Henry Lindsay (tuba).

The group has performed widely at venues such as St. Martins in the Fields and delighted the audience at Rook Lane Chapel with their glorious playing when they first appeared there in April 2010.

Admission

Ticket proceeds alone fund these concerts (no grant aid or sponsorship). Subscriptions make the series possible and support live music. Subscription tickets can be used by a friend or relative if the purchaser is unable to attend all 3 concerts.

Single concert tickets are not sold in advance. They may be available on the door at £11 each.
