Frome Festival: National Treasures with David Chandler
Thursday 10th July
Doors at 7pm // Talk from 7:30pm
‘Art, is it worth it?‘
The public coffers are empty but the museums and art galleries are full. It’s time to sell off the nation’s art, but what should go and what should we keep? Da Vinci’s Virgin Of The Rocks or Gormley’s Angel of the North? Velasquez’ Toilet Of Venus or Duchamp’s Fountain?
Four local enthusiasts ransack the nation’s art collections and defend their choices, but you make the final decision. And bring along your own ideas for the most hated work of art in a public collection for the BOGOF round.
What will go this time? And which work of art will stand up to the scrutiny of the panel and win favour with the public?
We are delighted to be joined on the panel by…
David Wharburton – prospective MP for Somerton and Frome
David Partner – internationally acclaimed photographer, who counts The Queen among his portraiture subjects
Dr Jo Dahn – senior research fellow at Bath School of Art & Design
and..
Muriel Lavender – Frome’s celebrated performance poet
Come and join them for the great art debate!
