Openstorytellers Presents: The Bardic Chair of Frome Storytelling Competition
Thursday 24th September
Doors at 7pm // Performance from 7:30pm
The Bardic Chair of the Avalon Marshes was first instigated in October 2002 and was held every year at the Peat Moors Centre near Glastonbury until October 2009 when the Centre closed. The bardic chair itself is a stripped willow chair made by Ivor Hancock and the winner takes custody of it until the next competition. Since 2007 the winner has been chosen not by fallible humans but the muses themselves as the tellers draw lots to see who will take the chair home.
After the closure of the centre Openstorytellers took over the organision of the event, renaming it the Bardic Chair of Frome. This year Openstorytellers have partnered with Mr Rook’s Speak Easy, the storytelling club based at Rook Lane Chapel, to present the competition. There will be slots for eight storytellers to tell a seven-minute story each, and our MC for the evening will be the wonderful Taffy Thomas, first ever Storytelling Laureate and patron of Openstorytellers.
