A return visit by this sensational quartet who defied illness and snowy weather to perform in our 2009 season, since when two personnel changes have strengthened and honed their taut and precise playing.

When Duncan saw the new line-up performing at the Michael Tippett Centre shortly after first violinist Lana Trotovsek joined the quartet in 2011, he felt they were a ‘must’ for another RLC Coffee Concert. Anyone who listened to the quartet’s BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’ programme appearance in September, 2012 will have heard presenter Shaun Rafferty congratulating Lana on her recent debut with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. We’re talking stratosphere here and Lana received both a standing ovation and ecstatic reviews (“..a fabulous performance… enchanting intense stirring rendition…”). That doesn’t happen unless you’re one of the world’s top flight fiddlers and consequently Lana’s membership of The Badkes means that string quartet playing doesn’t get much better than this.
